Dipna Patel's Interview

Interview with Gujarati film 'Gujjubhai The Great' Famous actress Dipna Patel. Dipna, who lives in Mumbai, said during the interview that she decided that she was going to be an actress only when she was in fourth grade. Deepna was born in Atlanta, Georgia, USA Deepna is not only interested in modelling and acting but she is equally interested in music. Surprisingly, Deepan's house has a special music room built. Her father has given this room the name Divan-e-Khas. He is fond of ghazals and old songs. This music room is soundproof and has lots of musical instruments. Dipana Patel plays harmoniums and keyboards. Even so, Deepna's father is a singer.

You were born in Georgia, when did you come to Vadodara?

After I was born, my father decided to return to India and we came to India. Some years I have also lived in Kolkata. My dad had a business there. Then, I came to Vadodara. My Dad Exports Shamshery Tea to the Gulf Countries

It was during schooling that I decided I wanted to be an actress?

It was during schooling that I decided I wanted to be an actress?
I remember now that when I was in fourth grade, I decided I wanted to be an actress, but Mom and Dad didn't dare say that. I also wanted to go to Miss India. From a young age it was not that I would go to Miss India but I was regularly watching the Miss India Contest. Priyanka Chopra became Miss World when I was in twelfth grade. It was then that I decided that I would go to Miss India. However, I was very good at studying. In the tenth I had good marks. Due to which I took Science on 11-12. However, right now, if anyone asks me if I wanted to take up the arts, I do not know why I took science.

Why suddenly took a course in fashion designing after science?
People and relatives around me say that if there is a science, I should become an engineer, a dentist, a doctor, and then settle down. However, this view is not perfect. If you need to run behind your passions, the money will come after you. After 12th I thought science was not fun. This is why I spoke to parents with an open mind. Fortunately the father supported and he said that if you like fashion designing then you should go in the same field. Then I took admission in Fashion Institute in Gandhinagar.

Ragged in Hostel Life?
Yes, raging happened. If there is a fashion college, seniors come and tell them what they are wearing. Explain all that to your fashion style. Ragging was positive but not so much that it took a lot of heart. There was also a talent round in ragging and we had to perform.

How did you prepare for modelling during college?

Being a fashion college, you get to do fashion shows for yourself and the seniors' garments. Then the idea of gradually becoming a model came up. It was only during college that I started preparing for Miss India. In different colleges, I used to attend fashion shows. I applied for college for the first time. When I won, my college was just over.
What was the first modelling assignment and how did it feel?

Previously there was a photoshoot in a modelling assignment. There was an Inter College and there were girls from different colleges in Ahmedabad. There was a competition between us and me won. I was convinced then that I could do this. 'Generation X, Now and Next' was all dressed up on this theme. All Indo-Western outfits wore the competition. I was wearing a newspaper outfit that my seniors helped me with. In competition I was different. Newspapers connect you at any time.

What did you do after finishing college?
I got a job immediately after finishing college but I wanted to go to Miss India and do modelling. That's why I didn't accept the job offer.

What was the process of participating in 'IM She, Miss Universe India'?
First, you have to fill in the online form and send it to your photographers. After this process, 60-70 girls from all over India are invited to Mumbai. These 60-70 girls get Personally Sushmita Sen and interview all. These include walking, gown round, intro production round. Of these, Sushmita chooses 20 girls and personally trains these 20 girls. We were given 15 days training in Hyderabad and I was very happy. In particular, my mom was also happy that I was going to get training from Sushmita.

How was the experience working with Sushmita Sen?
The experience was very good. We were trained with the Best 20 Girls in India. After moving to Hyderabad, the phones were first taken from us. There was a 'Bigg Boss' filling. However, we didn't have cameras for 24 hours. Training from walking to grooming, skincare, haircare, eating right, eating good food etc. was given for 15 days. Then there was the final round. During the competition, often the desire to talk to the parents and the crying caused them. It was during this training that I had to discipline. No food was allowed to be served here. We also had swim rounds, so you had to control. There was also a surplus checking of our luggage. There was no permit for eating chocolates or anything like that. One or two girls were caught and the men became very angry. Giving us bread, vegetables, yoghurt and salad. Giving us not five loaves but 2 loaves and a bowl of lentils, which contained more protein. Serving only soups and salads at dinner. Breakfast served tea and two biscuits. All-day long we were waiting to receive these two biscuits. From the day before the swimsuit round, we didn't take liquid at all. This was pretty rough but if you wanted to look the best in the swimsuit round then this would have to be done. This round was Judge Arjun Rampal and I won the fitness title.

How was your journey after winning this title?
After winning the title, I was awarded a scholarship, which gave me the opportunity to take an acting course at the New York Film Academy. This experience was very good. After working at Fashion College in Gandhinagar, I didn't have the courage to tell my parents that I want to take an acting course, so you spend it too. Beauty pageants include high heels, makeup and all your gowns to wear at your own expense. It was Dad who gave the money. I never had any money. This competition is very expensive. Relatives also talked about the fact that your girl is now gone. However, my parents trusted me and I was just focusing on my work. There was no Indian at New York Academy. It was a lot of fun learning the acting here.

It is said that in beauty contests you can win with money and it has a lot of politics, what would you say about this?
There must be politics and thus the politics are in every field. The acting field also has politics. Often in acting, it seems that this role is good for it, but someone is carrying a starkid. Someone takes an identifier and it is permanent. Our pageant coaches always tell us that even if an identified girl has gone, she will get a first prize but you can get a second or third number. I didn't even mind the second or third numbers and I worked hard. However, fortunately, I was fascinated by Susmita Sen's pageant. I was just hoping that the fitness title would be given to a tall girl but this title I won. In addition, one of the cases happened to me. All the stylists in Finale give their collection of dresses. All the girls got a fitting dress but I got a balloon-type dress. This made me very sad. Not only does my figure appear in this. This is very important in the beauty pageant. I also told the stylist to be fitting. Then Sushmita Sen saw the final outfit of each girl and immediately after seeing my final outfit, she called me and the stylist and discussed my outfit. Thereafter, Sushmita Sen made a change of dress. I had a good pageant.

How did the idea of becoming an actress come from the model?
In school, I used to work in plays. I also wanted to be a Miss India. Miss India is a good platform for you. After the act, I cannot participate here. So first I took part in this and then decided to act. After winning the Competition, you have to complete the modelling assignment. I was in Mumbai and had no idea how to get started. So I went to the Earth Theater and there were posters of many theatre workshops. Out of these posters I liked, I joined. I had no guide. The theatre group went on to perform plays one after the other.

What was your first play and how did you find it?
My first Hindi play was 'Pritam Pyaar Pappuji' with Rakesh Bedi and Molly Ganguly. I had only three lines in it. The director of this play was Vipul Mehta. After this play, I did another Hindi drama 'Incomplete'. In this play, I got a lead role but no money. There were also three months of rehearsals. There is no point in running back money initially.

How did you survive without earning in Mumbai?
Surviving in Mumbai is very difficult. Initially, when I moved to Mumbai, we had seven girls living in two bedrooms. This is how I save the rent money. Sit on the local train and auditioned several times. The local train has had a very bad experience. There is little left in the peak hour. In the women's compartment, I also get beaten up. Often when it rains and the train stops, I walk through the mud and then audition. Of course, I received the most support from my parents, who didn't mind surviving. Dad is fond of singing and he could not become a singer in college time and grandfather joined him in the family business. My father is now pursuing a career in sewing. Because of what happened to him, he supported me in fulfilling my dreams. During this time I worked in the production house, where I was behind the camera. However, after three months of service, I realized that I had to act. Then I got the lead role in my first Gujarati play 'Moj karo ne yar' and then the money didn't matter.

How did the Gujarati film gets compared to plays?

You do a play in Gujarati and you get to know everyone. During the play Associates Producer of 'Gujjubhai the Great' came to meet and told about the audition. I was not enthusiastic about this film at all. I was just like who watches a Gujarati movie. I didn't even know that Siddhartha Randaria was in the movie 'Gujjbhai The Great'. I spoke to the co-stars of my play about the film and they also auditioned for it. So I too went to audition and met Ishaan Randaria here. Associates Producer asked me to audition for the role of Sonia starring in the film. So Isha asked me to audition for Tanisha's role too. So I auditioned for both roles. Tanisha's role for 'Daddy, I'm Here ... Surprise' was given for this scene audition. So she gave an audition scene for the role of Sonia Kapoor. However, I was selected for the lead role Tanisha. Within 10-15 days of the audition, I got a call from the film I select. Even when the phone rang, I was nothing short of enthusiastic. I just said in the phone that Oak. Thanks. I still had no idea who Siddharthabhai was, because I had not seen any of his plays. Everyone in my family had their plays. The drama was also going on at this time. So I got the MK movie and the drama goes on. I wasn't particularly happy with the film. Then my parents told me that Siddharth Randaria was a very big actor. Then I started watching his work and then I realized how great he was and how lucky I was that I had the opportunity to work with him.

How was the movie experience?
All were theatre artists and all were experienced in the film. I was the only new one. We had people rehearsal two to three times. The film was shot in Ahmedabad and my parents were with me. The first scene of the day was about dance and that's why I was so relaxed. In the Beauty Pageant I gave a photoshoot, interview everything and because of that, there was no conscience with the camera. The technicalities of the film, camera angles, etc. were new. My first scene with Siddhartha was at the dinner table and I was so nervous. He had not been in the scene before but was present on the set and I was nervous when he arrived. It took me two to three days to get comfortable with them. If it was on the set I would also forget the dialogue and I would have made a mistake. Then I decided that it was I who would talk to them. Then I had a discussion with him about Sean and then it didn't matter. This was how my fears gradually subsided.

The film was shooting and playing with drama, so how did you manage?
It was very rough. The first few days were very difficult and due to this the drama and film producer were a bit upset. During the shooting, the director has to make a scene and my playtime is up. If you go to play or they get a movie, you will leave the play. I had to work on both of these. However, fortunately, a few days later the play was closed for some other reason.

What were you doing on the shooting set?
As the script arrives, the rehearsal begins immediately. I knew that the other actors would do it right away but it would take me a while. I also had ragging on set. Actor Jimmit Trivedi had a lot of fun ragging. Jim had a plan with Ishaan, Siddharth Bhai and others. She kept telling everyone that when Deepa comes out in the scene, she has to cry, let's say. In fact, in this scene, I didn't have to cry. Siddhartha Bhai came to tell me that you have to cry in this scene and you will not get glycerin. It happened to me that there was nothing in this scene that would make me cry immediately. Going around the corner, remembering all the bad things and trying to be sad. Then I gave this shot in two to three techs. After giving the shot, I checked in the monitor to see how the scene came. Then I realized I was crying, he didn't even take the scene. Then I found out that these people were having fun with me.

We didn't believe the film would be such a hit. The film went on for two months in Mumbai and four to five months in Gujarat. It is only during the shooting when the film becomes bad that one realizes that the film has become bad but when it is good, it is fun. However, you don't think the film will be such a big hit. The film was released in different locations in India. Then released overseas as well. I couldn't believe the film was going to be such a hit. The film's premiere show was held in London. Four years later, I still get many fans who say that they have seen the film 20 times or 25 times. The film was very connected to the audience. It is my destiny to associate with such a great film.

What did you like best from drama and cinema?
Both are medium plus mines. Gujarati play is 'Santakkudi', in which we are the only two actors. There are seven blackouts on stage. There was no one on stage at that time and only the music was playing. We change by just 40 seconds. It has to change everything from outfits to earrings. What happened in the play is done. Everything runs in one tech. Flower energy is to be given in the play. You can comfortably carry on the emotion you are in the theatre with turn-twist. In the play, you are the flower focus. When you speak dialogues in the theatre, you are actually the artist in front of you. When it comes to film, we laugh, have fun and if the shot is ready, then we have to go to other emotions. The film has a retake. The film has a camera in the closeup scene, the person in front of the camera understands and has to act. Imagination increases in film.

Which play did you find the most challenging?
I have also done experimental plays. It does not have an actual set. It was a play in which I became a pilot. The plane does not land on the stage. Let us fill the viewer with Lighting Effects and Acting that you are on the plane. There is only a cockpit on the stage. This is amazing. The audience is very close to the drama of the experiment. They look at me very closely. That is why they have to be attached to the Emotion. Commercial plays have props on stage. Commercial plays have a minimum distance of 10 feet between the stage and the audience. In this, the actor is in his own zone.

There were only two actors in your play 'Santakkudi', so what was the theme of this play?
'Santakkudi' is a commercial drama and we did it in a competition and I received the Best Actress award for this play. The play is an adaptation of the Marathi play 'Whiteley and Knight Rider'. Marathi people readily accept new things and objects. This is a little bold play and Gujarati viewers are not ready for this yet. In this play, I am in the role of a 40-year-old woman. I wore loose non-stylist clothes to show this age. The glasses were worn and looked a little aged with make-up and hairstyle. The rest of the acting was done. The director of the play is Shivang Thakkar Surat. He approached 23 girls for the play and I was the 24th and I said yes to the play. The protagonist has had such experiences in the past and had physical intimacy with her boyfriend. There was no physical compatibility. From this experience, the girl decided that now she would marry and then contract the physical intimacy first. There were also sex-related questions. Based on the bad experience of this girl in the past, he prepared this contract. The contract contains the words sex and many other words, which caused the audience to rise. This type of subject will take a lot of time for Gujarati viewers.

How did the drama in 'Santakkudi' come about?
For this play, I sent some links to my work and was working in plays. Three to four people said that Deepana couldn't do this roll. It's glamorous. People think that being modelled cannot do good acting. People I knew, talked about me like that. In the play that I did so far, there were four people. It was the first play with only 2 actors. My parents and grandmother came to see this play. My parents have complete faith in me. There was a message in the play. After the drama's interval, the houses were crowded. Older women, however, told us that they liked the play so much. Youngsters loved it. He found the play a little too bold. There have been shows in Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat and Mumbai.

Experienced with a casting couch?
When I met two to three production houses in Mumbai, I would have come up with estimates from their talking style. There was one who asked to do a 3-year contract and made films in the South. There were a couple of people I went to see. If I show them my work, they will not discuss the work but ask if you would like to know more about them. Listening to them immediately realizes that their intuition is not good. Call you tomorrow. When you are new to Mumbai, you will find the wrong people, which will also make you frustrated. I also wondered why I get such people. However, I was slowly starting to find the right people. There are many people who will tell you that I will make you a star, you will meet me tomorrow. People who say this need to be cautious.

If you want to change the language of Gujarati cinema, what will you change?
First of all, the industry is being developed in Ahmedabad, it has not been so open to other cities. Some people give people in another city a chance. Some people select their own people through groupism but this should not happen. People who have talent, even if they belong to another city, should be given a chance. Not only the actor but also the technicians and others. It is believed that only the actor of Ahmedabad is given the opportunity and he is taken.

Some people just made a Gujarati film, then they made it. The intake of subsidy should not be. There were a lot of films made last year, some of which were not released, some were stopped. People with bad intakes will gradually subside. The Marathi film industry has grown in the same way.

Urban and Rural cinemas are found in our area. Urban cinema needs to accept the Rural. When it comes to Rural Cinema, this goes back to the 80s-90s, which is popularly known as Dhollywood. Urban cinema artists are not Hollywood stars. If anyone thinks that the people of Urban Cinema are great, then I am just enough for them. The more humble the artist, the more he will grow.

What are the Upcoming Projects?
Four-five plays are currently underway, one of which we went to the US last year for the show 'Raju Raja Ram Aur Main', a Hindi drama with Sharman Joshi and is due to go to Kenya in November. There is something interesting about meeting this play with Sharman Joshi. I was rehearsing the play 'Thappo'. The director of the play is Kamlesh Ojha and Sharman Joshi are each other's friends. Interview with Sharman Joshi during rehearsal. The heroine in the play was going to study abroad and wanted another actress. A few days later, Kamlesh Ojha called me and said that Sharman Joshi had asked you for the play. I immediately said yes.

What to do when not shooting?
I'm very fond of dancing. I teach different dance styles. I have a cat named Melo. I believe in Buddhists and read about them, which gives me peace of mind. Because of a friend of mine, I believe in this philosophy. This philosophy gives me a lot of peace. We talk mantras in this, study and pray for another. When we join an organization, we pray for peace and happiness. This changed my life drastically. If I were to talk about an event in my life that changed my mind. There were a lot of dots in the beginning with the 'baby cock'. However, because of Buddhist philosophy, I started to see this whole thing differently. We did a rehearsal for this play for three months. Quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. If you win in this competition, you could get money. I wonder why I've been spending three months behind the play. Then thought that based on Marathi drama, there are two actors, challenging. You only get aroused when the challenge comes. The script for this play came and had a lot of dialogue. I can speak English, Hindi and then Gujarati fluently. My Parents Literature does not come from the background. My co-actor, writer and director Shivang Thakkar is one and I didn't want to be with him at all. For three months I had to rehearse with him. Every day I prayed for calm. There were arguments and arguments between us every day. Creative differences between us continued to grow. Of course, then things started to get better between us and after the play was over I told Shivang about Buddhist philosophy.

What is your diet plan?
I value fitness from school time. I'm an athlete and used to do basketball, race and long jump. I also go to the gym, dancing. Let's workout with Mostly Dancing. Avoid taking in until outside eating. It's not like she's not eating at all. I have a meal at home. I also use ghee in lentils. If I eat sweet today, I will have to cut down for two days. If you want to go to a party, go downstairs and have a few. I never go to the suburbs.
Who is the Favorite Actor-Actress?

Vicky Kaushal in Hindi, Ranveer Singh. Kiara Advani in Actress. Arohi Patel in Gujarati, Siddharth Randaria.

What do you do if you are given a superpower?
New India campaign is underway. This will only be possible if change comes to us. There are millions of people in India. We will all support. This will be New India if we show mercy. This is how we usually treat the people around us. Worked, trashy, how we treat them. 'Article 15' shows that they work in the sewer. These people I salute. Due to them our house is clean. We need to respect the worker and the cleaner. Because of them, we are sitting in the office. This is how change will happen in India.

What do you believe about Deep's relationship?

Love is a very good feeling. I've been through it, too. There are both good and bad experiences. That's what I tell today's youngsters that focus on your career first. For whom to die is not called love but for whom to live, it is called love. It is not fun to fall in love but it is fun to live in love.
